6/30/2023 0 Comments Alone by megan e freeman summaryFreeman wisely offers only Maddie's perspective, with no exposition here readers are left almost as unclear as she is on the whys of it all, and they'll likely grapple with the same questions as her: should she leave or stay put, are there any grownups she can trust anymore, and will she be able to survive years of isolation? Realistic fiction fans will appreciate the thoughtful use of language that hint at Maddie's introspection and evolution, and survival buffs will appreciate her creativity as she resolutely addresses each new emergency. The passage of time happens primarily in the spaces between entries in this verse novel, implying the silences and sheer significance of days Maddie endures with only her dog for company as she reads library books, gathers food, and experiences her first period over the years of solitude. As the seasons change and she remains alone, however, Maddie begins to come to terms with the fact that she may be on her own much longer than she originally anticipated. She spends the first few weeks waiting for rescue, as surely once each parent realizes she isn't with the other, they'll stop at nothing to get back to her. She lives alone in the mountains because its the only place shes ever felt safe. Unfortunately, this is the exact night that a mass evacuation takes place, and Maddie wakes up to a world that is drastically altered, leaving her the only person left in town. The first time twelve-year-old Maddie truly rebels, she tells each parent she is staying with the other and she instead goes to a family cabin by herself. In ‘Undeniable’ we read the story of Chloe and Oliver. ‘Undeniable’ is book two in the series, but can easily be read as a standalone. This was the last book in the series I still had to read, so when I got a little time on my reading schedule I decided to finally read this one. How many chances does love deserve?Īfter reading four books in the Cloverleigh Farms series, I really wanted to read ‘Undeniable’ too. But twenty years after I took that flying leap, he’s back in my life, daring me to risk everything for him: my job, my self-worth, and my heart. And as we got older, the dares only got dirtier-and the betting stakes higher-until finally, he left me in pieces. Because he had the nerve to grow up gorgeous, charming, and sexy. (You can also break a collarbone, which served him right as far as I was concerned.) I wish I could say it was the last dare I ever took from him, the last bet I ever made with him, the last time I ever trusted Oliver Ford Pemberton. He said you couldn’t break a leg from a 12-foot-jump. When we were eleven, Oliver Ford Pemberton dared me to jump off a barn roof. There’s something deeply cathartic about enjoying a manga, it’s a really relaxing way to read. I’d say Alita is a great introduction to manga, especially if you enjoyed the movie and want to explore the story in more depth. Well, the anime strays a little from the manga, the film seems to be based off the anime but draws from more volumes of the manga and strays a little further for cinematic effect. Did the anime follow the book? How about the movie? Sometimes there are no words for several pages, but once you get used to it, the story flows perfectly with no words. Good manga books are a lesson in visual storytelling. I can’t say reading, because you don’t really read a manga. Then I saw the movie, now I’ve started enjoying the manga. I watched the anime of Alita decades ago. 6/30/2023 0 Comments White feminism koa beck reviewWith “intellectually smart and emotionally intelligent” (Patrisse Cullors, New York Times bestselling author and Black Lives Matter cofounder) writing, Beck meticulously documents how elitism and racial prejudice have driven the narrative of feminist discourse.
